YMMV / Doctor Who S31 E4 "The Time of Angels"

• Broken Base: This is where we see River's character flouting her naughty side for the first time. Compared to her last appearance, River acts in a considerably more outlandish manner than we saw her before, where she was quiet and tame. Some fans preferred her original portrayal. However, we're seeing her timeline in the wrong order, meaning the version of her at the end of the line is after her Character Development has taken shape.
• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • River says she had TARDIS-flying lessons "from the very best" and that it's a shame the Doctor was busy that day. In "Let's Kill Hitler", it turns out that the Doctor was busy dying because River poisoned him.
  • Remember Eleven's Badass Boast about why trying to put him in a trap is a Very Bad Idea? Guess Gallifrey didn't get that memo.
• Heartwarming in Hindsight: River showing off to Amy actually becomes kind of sweet when we learn that she's showing off for her mom!
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • The interactions between River and Amy, once you know River's backstory becomes much funnier.
  • The Doctor's offhand comment about being on Virginia Woolf's bowling team becomes much more of a howler after you see Matt and Company participate in a celebrity bowling contest, especially since Matt Smith is an absolutely horrible bowler.
• Magnificent Bastard: The Weeping Angel nicknamed "Angel Bob" orchestrates a plan to resuscitate its malnourished kin, by posing as an ordinary statue until it was onboard the Byzanitum, a starship with a temporal core, then causing the ship to crash so its brethren could feed off the energy. When the Doctor and the Church investigate, the angel poses as a benign recording before reaching out of the screen and locking Amy inside the room, imprinting itself on Amy's mind to manipulate her. The angel then hunts the clerics, by stealing their voices to lure others in. Establishing radio contact with the Doctor, Angel Bob manages to demoralize him and his friends by pretending to be Bob and playing mindgames on Amy. With all the angels rejuvenated, they pursue the Doctor into the Byzantium intending to feed on the crack in time, before realizing the danger it posed, to which Angel Bob tries to convince the Doctor to sacrifice himself to close it.
