YMMV: Doctor Who Confidential

  • Tear Jerker: The last ten minutes of "The Italian Job", the companion episode to "The Fires of Pompeii", consists almost entirely of David Tennant looking utterly heartbroken whilst being told exactly what happened to the victims of Mt Vesuvius.
Tennant: It's always very easy, when you think about historical events, for them not to feel particularly human, for them not to feel particularly close. And then you see the shapes of their... of their bodies, and you see how their existence ended, and you can... you can grasp a bit of the story of how appalling and shocking and... and... and surprising that was, and the terror of that moment, the thought that you literally didn't know what was happening — there was no precedent for what was occurring.
