  • Awesome Music: Every single song on The Inalienable Dreamless, as well as Jouhou.
  • Cult Classic: The Inalienable Dreamless has become one, with it regularly cited as one of the all time great grindcore records alongside other classics like Scum and Prowler in the Yard.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: They were mostly ignored in the US when they were together, but they were much more successful when they toured in Japan, where they regularly played to packed venues.
  • Growing the Beard: Jouhou is where the band's sound really became unique, and The Inalienable Dreamless is where they perfected their craft.
  • Tough Act to Follow: They apparently find The Inalienable Dreamless to be this, which is part of why they haven't reunited. Many fans agree; in fact, it's not uncommon to see it cited as an example of this for the entire genre of grindcore. At the same time, arguably also subverted in that many fans evaluate Jon Chang's next band, Gridlink, as a worthy successor to Discordance Axis in its own right. No One Knows What the Dead Think, which sees Chang reunited with Discordance Axis guitarist Rob Marton, has also received a considerable share of acclaim.
  • Vindicated by History: They received little critical attention in their heyday, with music critics at the time calling The Inalienable Dreamless pretentious, but since then they have gathered more and more critical acclaim and influenced many other grindcore bands.
