• Common Knowledge: There is a famous story about Brigitte Bardot being on the show, being asked by Roy Plomley for her luxury, and replying "a peeenissss". Plomley managed to ask why, to which Bardot allegedly responded, "Well, it's what the world needs most, isn't it? 'Appiness". Bardot never appeared on the show, so the incident could not possibly have happened; the incident originates in the Peter Sellers film There's a Girl in my Soup. It is believed to be attributed to DID because it demonstrates how unflappable Plomley was.
• Harsher in Hindsight: When Gary Glitter appeared on the show, he joked that his luxury item would be a blow up doll and a puncture repair kit. This attempt at humour went down badly at the time, but was used against him when he was outed as a sex offender.
