YMMV / Death Machines

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The score by Don Hulette is a really good example of mid-1970s electronic music, similar in feel to some of John Carpenter's contemporary compositions.
  • Designated Hero: Frank Thomas spends more time angsting over his lost hand and getting his ass kicked than actually getting anything done.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The film's trailer falsely making it out to be a kind of proto-Terminator becomes hilarious in light of the similarly-titled Terminator clone Death Machine released 18 years later.
  • Narm:
    • The film's trailer is an extremely blatant case of Never Trust a Trailer, courtesy of Crown International Pictures trying to play to the sci-fi crowd even though it's very obviously not a sci-fi film.
    • For some reason, the makeup applied to Captain Green reflects the set's lighting in such a way that it makes the actor's skin look green-tinted, making his stereotypical Da Chief act look all the more bizarre.
  • So Bad, It's Good: It is by no means a good martial arts flick, but it is certainly an entertaining one, what with the titular assassins' extremely unsubtle methods and the various stupid decisions both they and the other characters make throughout the film.
  • WTH, Costuming Department?: With the exception of Madame Lee, all the crime bosses and gangsters are given costumes more in line with ordinary insurance salesmen or used car dealers. Brandon Tenold in particular had a field day with this in his review of the film.
