  • Broken Base:
    • There was considerable surprise among many readers when Meg revealed that the comic would have Christian themes, if not directly based on the The Bible, much like The Chronicles of Narnia. Most readers in the talkback forum were cool with it, but a small number stated their disappointment at the Unexpected Genre Change.
    • Happened again, this time with a couple of Christian readers expressing disapproval at the reveal that Lyra was dating Margot. They were sufficiently vociferous that Meg banned them from the talkback forum.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: The frog used to summon Brody has quite a vocal subfandom. They were gunning for it to survive Brody's destruction, and mourned its loss. It turns out to have hitched a ride in Wu's sleeve in the end.
Odious Call: He decided to follow Brody back into the Drath world, to TAKE THE FIGHT TO THE ENEMY!!
  • Epileptic Trees: The question of why Thistle hides her face and considers herself monstrous has invited quite a lot of speculation, some of which was illustrated as Bonus Material.
  • Fan Nickname:
    • Sassmaster Flash: Ford the fire mage, for his snarking while fighting Brody.
    • Ice Queen McLean: Margot the ice mage, both for her powers and her cool demeanor under fire.
    • Scargot: Margot after she is disfigured in the battle with Brody.
    • Orc Dad: Orrig, for his Team Dad demeanor towards his crew.
  • Genius Bonus: The webcomic includes some rather obscure Biblical references.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Brent tells Thistle that (in contrast to Drath), "at least cave elves don't get into your head and stay there," shortly before it's revealed that Thistle, whom he's been pining over, is a cave elf herself.
  • Older Than They Think: The bizarre looking creature that appears in Chapter Four is similar to Abrahamic descriptions of seraphim, angels of heaven that have six wings and are described being closest to God.
  • The Un-Twist: Anyone surprised by finding out Thistle has a Drath echo in her head wasn't paying too much attention.
  • The Woobie: Thistle's shown with crippling self-esteem issues, a bad history with Torches and Pitchforks mobs, a Dark and Troubled Past, a Drath Enemy Within belittling her and occupying her thoughts, and a bad case of Internalized Categorism due to being a Cave Elf, all of which cause her to undervalue her accomplishments and doubt her place in the team.
Brent: ...we like you. Why can't you like yourself?
