YMMV / Dark Angel (1996)

• Older Than They Think: An outcast teenage girl discovers she's a witch and utilizes her powers to climb the high school popularity chain, get the guy of her dreams and get revenge on the bullies, only to realize things have gone too far and she could be in danger, seeking help from a more experienced witch who owns a magic store. This bears similarities to The Craft, a cult teen movie released several months prior to Dark Angel's publication. Even their depictions of magic are similar, drawing a lot from Wicca and neo-paganism. The story is also similar to the more light-hearted and comedic 1989 cult movie Teen Witch, which likewise features a dorky teenage girl finding out she's a witch and using her powers to become popular, win over her crush and get back at her tormentors, only to regret her less-than-scrupulous actions after gaining popularity, reconcile with the best friend she ditched for the popular kids and win over her love interest by being herself rather than using magic or trying to be 'cool'.
