YMMV / Dad

Go To

  • Adorkable: Part of draw of the series is Dad's adorably awkward aping of a normal suburban father with his childlike mannerisms.
  • Awesome Moments: Dad showing off his sick dance moves in front of Jamie Foxx.
  • Awesome Music: A lot of the music qualifies, but especially the music over the opening-credits of "Andan's Run."
  • Like You Would Really Do It: If the comments are anything to go by, pretty much no-one believed that "The End" was actually the end, nor was it the death of Dadbot.
  • Heartwarming Moments: In "Dad Bod - Official Music Video," Dad and Cheryl are partaking in a Costume-Test Montage of Dad trying on clothes and Cheryl giving her opinion on them. Though for some of the scenes she's either bored or up to her usual tricks, for a good chunk of the video, she's dancing with Dad, for the first time actually partaking in his fun and seeming to have a great time just goofing around with him. Then, at the end of the video, he gets that kiss on the cheek! An unexpectedly sweet video, considering Cheryl's usual attitude.
  • Retroactive Recognition: Kane Pixels of Kane Pixels' The Backrooms fame contributed visual effects to several Dad videos, most notably "The Facility", and he also created the Project 209 series which is set in the same universe as Dad.
  • Shocking Moments:
    • The entirety of "Dad Elucidated - Act II Finale" is a rapid-fire series of twists and reveals. From Andan officially "waking up," to Cheryl revealing her true relationship with the Neighbor, to even Ella and Emily being officially introduced after a lot of teasing and hinting. Everyone expected a big season finale, but nobody expected this, and the live-premier's chat was going wild.
    • "The End" and "Dad is Dead" are shocking at first as it looks like Dadbot has been killed and the titles imply the channel is over, but instead we get the slightly less shocking event of Dadbot gaining conflicting emotions.
    • "Scarlett Dawn" started out as just another episode showing Dadbot taking on Dad's normal life, along with some more information about the Cube and Cheryl. Then Dadbot goes to play frisbee with his coworker, Marty... and just as Marty is talking about being engaged, Dadbot throws the frisbee a little too hard, and the next thing we know, Marty is dead, marking the first time we see anyone who isn't a robot die on screen, and at the hands of our protagonist. To say people were shocked is putting it lightly.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • The ending of "Kiss." After daydreaming about Cheryl giving him a kiss on the cheek and realizing it isn't real, Dad just sadly and silently walks away from the scene. His longing for her minor show of affection, and his reaction to receiving it only in a fantasy, just makes you want to give the poor guy a hug.
    • Most of the stuff surrounding poor Dadbot in Act III. Cheryl programs him to turn on the investigative channels who were just there to help him and whom the real Dad loved (and if anything Dadbot is basically just the old Dad with some slight changes), he is just there to be used by her for revenue and is led to believe she really loves him and, to top it all off, he is shot dead by an unknown attacker in "The End." And when he comes back (or at least a new version of him is made in "Dad is Dead"), he has to deal with conflicting emotions for the first time in his life.
    • Marty and Dadbot go to play frisbee while Marty excitedly tells him that he's engaged. It's a happy scene for all of five seconds, because almost immediately after, Dadbot kills Marty with the frisbee, ending the episode on a tragic and jarring note.
