  • Awesome Music: The musical numbers (both Jukebox Musical songs like "Mr. Sandman" and original ones like "Please, Mr. Jailer") are among the most praised parts of the film, sometimes to Just Here for Godzilla levels.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: The delinquents' nightly prayers in the jailhouse: "...God bless Richard Nixon".
  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content: Two deleted songs Baldwin and his friends sing ("The Naughty Lady of Shady Lane" and “Chicken") have fans who think they are catchy and wouldn't have hurt the plot or pacing.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Allison singing "Please, Mr. Jailer" and appealing for the release of her boyfriend can feel uncomfortable after her actress was sent to prisonnote  for killing a man in a drunk driving accident.
  • Indecisive Parody: The film spoofs regular teen movies effectively in many scenes, but some fans feel it also plays some stock teen movie cliches (like the drag race) straight, and that it can't quite commit to being either campy or edgy.
  • Narm Charm: Intentionally unrealistic dialogue and scenarios are milked for all they are worth.
  • Signature Scene: Even some people who aren't fans of the genre may have some knowledge of the farcical scene where Milton and Hatchet-Face try to break Cry Baby out of prison.
  • So Okay, It's Average: Most people's reaction to the stage musical, which closed after 45 previews and 68 performances. To its fans though, it's just another sad example of a show that was too good to last.
