- Alternative Character Interpretation: The Prometheans. Were they really as bad as the uncaring gods for kidnapping Steve and offering to kill him in exchange for humanity's freedom from godly abuse? Or do The Needs of the Many outweigh the life of one fifteen year old boy? Are the cousins' actions in rebelling against the order and freeing Steve naive, only further endangering not only themselves, but everyone tasked with protecting them, or are they a needed kick in the pants after a thousand years of cynicism made them Become Their Own Antithesis? (It's a moot point anyway, considering Charlotte found a solution that didn't involve anyone's death except hers, or so she thought).
- Iron Woobie: Charlotte takes quite a beating from Poseidon, and while she's still recovering, is carried off by a Chimera, shot by a poisoned arrow, sacrifices herself for all of humanity by rolling off a cliff to (seeming) death.
- Nightmare Fuel: Philonecron kidnapping Zee and keeping him as a mute, mindless puppet for a week, particularly since he has no compunctions about dressing and undressing him and has to order Zee to do basic tasks like sit or eat.
- No Yay: Philonecron's obsession with Zee and weird hatred of Charlotte for coming between them comes across this way.
- Tear Jerker: Zee's grandmother's death.
- The Woobie: Zee and Charlotte both by the end.
