YMMV / Crash Holly

Go To

  • Adorkable: Crash was such a huge Genki Guy that spoke before he thought that one couldn't help but find him endearing.
  • Growing the Beard: The year 2000 and his 'Houdini of Hardcore' phase is what helped Crash stand on his own, and differentiate himself from just being Hardcore Holly's annoying cousin.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Hardcore Holly's mistreatment of Crash was played for comedy. Given the stories about Bob Holly being a backstage bully that eventually came out, it's rather uncomfortable.
    • After an incident on WWE Tough Enough, where Matt Cappotelli complained about Bob Holly stiffing him, Crash did a shoot interview where he called him a "crybaby". While it became uncomfortable due to Crash's suicide (as he admitted to being bullied by Bob in the same interview), Matt passed away in 2018.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Crash's 'Super Heavyweight' gimmick would be rehashed in 2003 by Matt Hardy - who did a storyline of trying to lose weight so he could qualify for the Cruiserweight division. And Crash would end up joining Matt Hardy's stable shortly after that.
  • Hollywood Thin: Commentators would frequently talk about Crash as though he were extremely short and thin, and his 'Super Heavyweight' gimmick was meant to be a joke about such a small guy thinking he was big. Crash's actual height was 5 ft 9, the average height for an American male. And rather than being a slender Rey Mysterio type, his stocky build made him beefier than the average man. He just happened to look smaller by comparison to some of the other men on the roster.
  • Narm Charm: His fast talking country bumpkin gimmick was extremely silly, but that was part of the charm.
  • Never Live It Down: For a long time, he couldn't live down his shoot on Matt Cappotelli. Even after his death, it's still brought up.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot:
    • There was no resolution to Crash's feud with Raven, especially once the Masked Ninja was revealed to be Tori. Rumors abound that they would have had a mixed tag match against Crash and Molly Holly at WrestleMania X-Seven. Crash and Molly had been working incredibly well as a tag team, and such a match would undoubtedly have been a lot of fun. According to Tori, the storyline was dropped due to something offending Raven backstage.
    • Despite winning the European and Light Heavyweight titles, Crash didn't have a meaningful reign with either; dropping them very soon after winning them, making the title changes quite pointless. That was sadly a common problem in Attitude Era booking.
    • The Holly Cousins briefly reunited in 2002 but never factored into the then-dwindling tag team division.
  • Vindicated by History: The 24/7 rule for the Hardcore title was despised by most wrestling critics at the time. Years later, it's seen as a fun part of the Attitude Era, and a highlight of Crash's career.
