• Audience-Alienating Premise: The game involves the main protagonist, Itsuki, being Trapped in Another World where he learns he is "God's Gift" destined to destroy the world's impurities. However, in order to carry this out, Itsuki has to conceive "Star Children" with the 12 Star Maidens, one of which includes his own cousin Mahiru. Naturally, casual gamers avoided the game where the main character rather blatantly impregnates multiple women as a gameplay mechanic. However, despite this, Conception achieved enough niche appeal that it managed to get a sequel, an anime adapation, and several remasters.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: The characters were designed by Re:Zero illustrator Shinichirou Otsuka. In 2021, Re:Zero is getting a video game of its own from the exact same developers as Conception^note A subsidiary of Spike Chunsoft called Chime Corporation .
