• Harsher in Hindsight:
  • In this story, Crocodile never stooped to slavery as he freed Amy and Grace from slavery. In One Piece canon, Crocodile won't hesitate to sell someone to slavery as he threatened Buggy for not being able to pay up the debt the latter owed him after intercepting the Marine forces and intending to start up the Cross Guild.
  • In this story, Smoker explained to the Straw Hats that Marines with Devil Fruit abilities and high ranks were not allowed to leave service from the World Government because they knew too much of the secrets they're privy to and their Devil Fruits they possessed are considered invaluable. In canon, Kuzan left the Marines after he lost to Sakazuki in a duel over the position of Fleet Admiral and ended up joining Blackbeard as one of the Ten Titanic Captains, willingly opposing against Garp and SWORD who were rescuing canon Coby in captivity. It seemed that the World Government was justified of implementing such policy of preventing Marines from going rogue/pirate and they made a big mistake of allowing Kuzan leave the Marines.
• Hilarious in Hindsight:
  • During the Little Garden arc, Coby finds and eats a Devil Fruit that lets him turn into a Triceratops. In One Piece, chapter 998, Sasaki, a member of the Beast Pirates Flying Six, is revealed to have ate the Dragon-Dragon Fruit: Model Triceratops. As there is only one of any particular Devil Fruit power (whether as a fruit or already eaten) in existence at a time, it has some implications.
  • At the end of the Syrup Village arc, Kaya gives Usopp a good luck kiss before he joins the Straw Hats on their journey. The 2023 live-action series would also have Kaya giving Usopp a Big Damn Kiss.
• Ships That Pass in the Night:
  • Of the story's three Beta Couples (Coby/Grace, Usopp/Kaya, and Gin/Amy), only Usopp and Kaya have actually interacted in canon.
  • In Paradise's "Episode of Merry," Kaku falls for a Honey Trap set by Reiju and is implied to still be carrying a torch for her as of New World, New Choices. While they haven't met each other in the original series, they do have some common ground in that they're both Tyke Bomb assassins and their respective organizations' Token Good Teammate. (Well, former teammate in Kaku's case.)
