YMMV / Checkered Ninja

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Is the ninja who he claims to be (Taiko Nakamura, a vengeful spirit and guardian angel), or is he actually some other entity that has the memories of Nakamura, maybe even made the whole thing up? His tendency to refer to Aske as "human" seems to indicate he doesn't see himself as one, which would be odd for anyone to do even if they had died long ago.
  • Complete Monster: Phillip Eberfrø — Eppermint in the English dub — is a wealthy toy tycoon who operates a horrific child labor sweatshop. Philip opens the movie beating a child worker to death for accidentally using his scarf to create a ninja doll, spurring the spirit of Taiko Nakamura to hunt him down in retaliation. Arrested at the film's conclusion, Phillip returns in the sequel, seeking to eliminate any potential witnesses to remove all evidence of his crimes. To that end, Phillip has the factory owner gunned down, locks Aske and his former interpreter in a shop rigged to explode, and attempts to hunt down and murder all of his former child workers, even releasing king cobras into a populated restaurant to reach one of his targets.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: Much like Terkel in Trouble before it, it has an "11-years and up" rating in Denmark. If that wasn't enough, clips and trailers of it are even categorized by YouTube as "made for kids" and Amazon Prime has it tagged under "kids" alongside shows like The Adventures of Kid Danger. This is despite featuring numerous elements not suitable for children, including a young sweatshop worker being beaten to death being the instigator for the film's plot, a visibly sticky adult magazine being found by Aske, and numerous instances of strong language throughout (up to and including "fuck").
