- Covered Up: Although "I Write The Songs" was written by Bruce for Captain & Tennille, the song would go on to be much more famous when Barry Manilow covered it and won a Grammy Award for "Song of the Year".
- Odd Friendship: A classically trained musician and notoriously conservative man who generally sided with Mike Love's vision for the Beach Boys, he still somehow managed to share a genuinely deep friendship with the self-taught, hard partying Dennis Wilson, who wanted the band to stick to making more progressive music. Even though Bruce did not think much of the songs on the album, he still showed up to help Dennis work on his solo album because he wanted to help out his friend.
- Older Than They Think: While Bruce was the last member of the classic Beach Boys lineup to join, he'd actually been recording and releasing material longer than any of them, with his first single coming out in 1959.
