- Best Known for the Fanservice: The series is best known as the soap opera set in Liverpool where Anna Friel kissed another girl. One of the first acknowledgments on British TV that lesbians existed, and avant-garde for its time.
- Retroactive Recognition:
- Father Christmas from "Nothing Serious" is played by David Ross, who would later be best known for playing the original Kryten and the second Talkie Toaster in Red Dwarf, and Elgin Sparrowhawk in The Green Green Grass.
- Madge Richmond from seven episodes in 1987 is played by Shirley Stelfox, who would later be best known for playing the first Rose in Keeping Up Appearances and Edna Birch in Emmerdale.
- Maureen Lomax from six episodes in 1986 is played by Val McLane, who would later be best known for playing Norma Patterson in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.
- Seasonal Rot: Although not divided into "seasons" as such, many fans felt the series declined rapidly from around 2000 until its eventual cancellation in 2003. The show went from being a thrice-weekly staple of Channel 4, showcasing some of the most controversial storylines of its day, to a Saturday afternoon slot with stories as mundane as Alan trying to give up smoking, in a ham-fisted attempt to reverse the Sequel Escalation in plots since the series' mid-90s heyday. Viewing figures declined in tandem with the storylines.
