YMMV / Breaking Bad S5 E3 "Hazard Pay"

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Why does Walter manipulate Jesse into breaking up with Andrea? It could be because he doesn't want to be reminded of what he did to Brock. Then again, by this point in the series, Walt has become so remorseless, it's easy to believe he could look Brock right in the eye and not feel a thing. He could have also manipulated Jesse into breaking it off because he saw how very happy Jesse was with Andrea and Brock, and how mature he'd become with her. Jesse was easiest to manipulate when he was weak, lonely and depressed. The last time he was this happy – when he was with Jane, before they started using heavily together – it was tougher to get Jesse on his side. Jesse also gained confidence with Gus and Mike, which led him turn on Walt. Essentially, Walt might have figured that keeping Jesse miserable kept him malleable.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Mike's visible disapproval of Saul once again suggesting the Laser Tag building to help Walt with his meth cooking and money laundering becomes a hell of a lot funnier after Better Call Saul reveals that the owner of said building was an incredibly stupid criminal that Mike had to bail out multiple times with the help of Nacho Varga and Jimmy himself.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: When Marie is constantly talking and nitpicking about the car wash workers, Skyler finally says what most fans wanted to say to Marie way back in season one: to shut up, repeatedly and boisterously. Sure, Skyler snapped because of Walt's actions bearing her down, and anyone could've triggered that reaction, but she couldn't have let out her frustrations on a more fitting character.
