YMMV / Bramble: The Mountain King

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The overall soundtrack is praised by the players, but the track that stands out the most is, as expected, the game's rendition of the classical piece "In the Hall of the Mountain King", which is heard only in the final boss fight against none other than the titular Mountain King himself.
  • Complete Monster: The Skogsrå is a shapeshifting creature that stands out as the only entity young protagonist Olle faces that is wholly evil. It stalks the forests in the shape of an enchanting woman to lure men into its clutches, at which point it either devours their hearts or drives them completely insane. The Skogsrå takes a sadistic glee in its actions, committing them solely for power and fun, and it drives an entire village to extinction by picking off the population and turning them against one another. When it notices Olle in its grove, the Skogsrå uses the form of the boy's beloved sister Lillemor to torment and attack him, and even if the Skogsrå is shown mercy by Olle in the ensuing fight, it reacts by stabbing Olle In the Back.
  • I Am Not Shazam: The main character's name is not Bramble, its Olle, nor is it the name of the Mountain King, It refers to the plant entity.
  • Signature Scene: The Nacken grabbing Olle just as he goes over a waterfall at the end of the former's area tends to be the scene that sticks in the minds of players and is the subject of many a Youtube thumbnail.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The game's graphics are highly praised, portraying the enchanted forest through a diverse and detailed set of areas, all of them either colorful and charming or horrific and nightmarish. The textures and physics the game uses are nothing to sneeze at either, with even water looking far more realistic than is usual for an indie game.
