YMMV / Boyfriend of the Dead

Go To

  • Base-Breaking Character: Lily. Poor girl tries to be good, and acknowledges what she's doing and feeling for Alex isn't healthy for anyone involved, but it has poor optics given how long she's been doing it and quietly, happily keeping Alex away from N during their break. Consequently, either she's sympathized with and/or shipped with Alex 'over' N, or she's overstepping her bounds and gets pushback. Made fun of in one April Fools comic where the title was announced to be changed to Ex-Boyfriend Of The Dead.
    • After pushing on some very harsh reality checks toward N and Alex to the point where the former experiences a temporary Heroic BSoD and the latter is driven to tears, Lewis gets himself firmly in this trope. He either is seen as hilarious for finding humans to be gross due to his vegetarianism or clever for discovering just what caused the zombie outbreak or overly blunt to the point of callousness. Let's just say that some of his Wham Line deliveries made a lot of fans rather vitriolic that he's gotten almost as much critique as Slippy.
    • Alex as of episode 262 has become a polarizing example. After a big What the Hell, Hero? moment where she waterboards one of the mutated zombies, Alex's popularity has dwindled with a chunk of the fandom. A good amount of people side with Alex's actions due to them starting out of self-defense and her having no idea that the monster was a teenager. Other people view Alex's behavior as psychopathic and unacceptable due to Alex not stopping after the monster surrendered and seemingly having no remorse even after she learned the monster was a child.
    • The Mutated Zombie. There is a split on whether or not he's deserving of sympathy because he was a sick teenager who was tragically experimented on with Elsa's fungi. Many people bring up that even despite his past, he still killed government workers and mind controlled zombies against their will.
