YMMV / Bottersnikes and Gumbles

Go To

  • Fridge Horror:
    • For the most part, Toot's backstory is an enigma when it's not about his unpleasant incident with King Snike. And in several episodes, Happi is implied to know at least something about his past - and that he's unwilling to reveal anything about it. There's something about Toot that neither he nor Happi want to tell us, and for all we know it might be something horrifying and/or personal...
    • In "Where's Willi?", Willi finds old Gumbledex cards in a container depicting an unnamed Gumble hero. He then tries to ask Happi about them some time later but the latter refuses to comply and has Willi hand them over, which is unusual considering Happi normally likes to talk about famous Gumbles. Then there's Willi's questions one of which goes "Who hid these cards?", which isn't answered and instead implies the cards weren't meant to be in the Gumbledex for some unknown reason, and another of which asks about the reason for the Gumble hero not having a name, which is never answered either. And finally, the entire deal behind the cards is incredibly vague, even with them telling at least most of a story that doesn't sound much like something that needs to be kept a secret.... Which may or may not be a good thing.
    • Toot's "vocabulary" (which only consists of toots) sounds cute at first. But then you learn that the word "toot" can also be used to describe a fart, and then there's the fact Toot only started communicating via tooting after his incident with King Snike - which involves being eaten and escaping through somewhere other than his mouth (which is, mind you, also related to farts). So is the choice of word coincidental, or is he actually unconsciously repeating a sound that played part in him becoming traumatized?
  • Nightmare Fuel: See here.
  • The Woobie: Poor Toot. He has gone through a very messed up experience which left him a nervous wreck who gets terrified whenever Bottersnikes get brought up, so much that he considers the turret at the top of the Gumbletree his only safe haven.
