YMMV / Bob's Burgers S3E23 "The Unnatural"

Go To

  • Critical Dissonance: The AV Club actually rated this episode higher than the previous episode, "Carpe Museum", but for fans it's often the other way around—while "Carpe Museum" is praised for its humor, heart, and introducing Regular-Sized Rudy, this episode is often considered run-of-the-mill at best and a letdown of a season finale at worst.
  • Genius Bonus: Bob and Linda decide to settle the issue of whether or not Gene improved under the Deuce with whether or not he can get a hit. Fans of baseball will know Bob is right; Gene reached base on a dropped pop fly that should have been caught; thus it was an error and not a hit.
  • Never Live It Down: Linda stealing the espresso machine to pay off the Deuce of Diamonds is considered to be the worst thing she's done in the entire series, especially since she never gets punishednote  for it or shows remorse.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Bob gets increasingly angrier in this episode as he realizes Linda stole the espresso machine and gave the money to a Con Artist, and we're initially supposed to side against him since it's coming into conflict with Gene's baseball skills improving. Except the problem is Linda isn't actually helping Gene no matter what she thinks and he can't get her to understand that stealing the machine to pay the Deuce was a stupid idea. At this point he has every right to side against Linda and Gene since they're both too oblivious and self-centered to recognize they're not getting what they want and Bob had to pay for it.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Linda initially starts off wanting to help Gene improve his baseball skills, but she quickly loses sympathy points when she chooses to support a blatant scam artist by stealing Bob's expensive espresso machine and refuses to acknowledge or admit the Deuce of Diamonds is a Con Artist and he isn't actually helping Gene improve at all. Not to mention that the home run he hit towards the end of the episode was sheer luck. The fact she even has the nerve to call Bob a dick at his justified anger over the situation and outright accuse him of caring more about the espresso machine than Gene makes it seem like she's the episode's antagonist.
