• Fridge Logic: How did Gene even manage to make it onto the Little League team in the first place despite his utter lack of skill, desire to play the game, and basic understanding of baseball?
  • This isn't as weird as it sounds. Little League is designed to allow any kid who signs up to play to be on a team, regardless of skill. The coach clearly isn't happy to have Gene on his team, but he doesn't have a choice. The other coach pointing out Gene needs to be put in the game is also correct; every kid needs to play three of the six regulation innings. The real question is whether or not Gene even practiced hitting, as he seems completely caught off guard what having the ball thrown to the batter entails.
