  • Even Better Sequel: Soup, to a lot of fans.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The editor of a Spanish music magazine told Glen Graham that its readers had voted Soup the best album of the '90s. The album also went gold in Canada while flopping stateside.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: The fact that Soup was recorded in New Orleans, after Shannon Hoon died there on the band's subsequent tour. It doesn't help that the album starts and ends with a New Orleans jazz funeral.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Shows in the 2010s sometimes had Shannon's daughter, Nico Hoon, join the band to sing "Change."
  • Never Live It Down: Best known for "that bee girl song" and their lead singer dying of an overdose.
  • Sophomore Slump: Soup, at least commercially. While the debut went quadruple platinum, Soup didn't even go gold.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Nico Hoon, Shannon's daughter, sang a few songs with them at live shows, but never became an official member. She would have likely avoided the Replacement Scrappy status.
  • Vindicated by History: Soup has gotten more critical acclaim over the years than it did on original release.
