• Anticlimax Boss: Compared to the hectic trench run and the frenzied bomber escort just before it, the Nowotny squadron is rather easy.
• Scrappy Mechanic: Landing. The first time you do it, you're landing on a carrier, and there's a reason why in Real Life, it's more often than not called carrier crash-landings. The second time, you are hit with flak, and start listing. Given there's no flaps on these planes, you basically have to dive into the runway and pray you don't come in at too steep an angle.
• Tear Jerker: In as much as there is one in a video game, Joe's death. Though it is rather annoying that you are deprived of a mechanic who can fix anything with a button combo.
