- Jerkass Woobie: Vincent is a complete asshole to every single monster in Blackgate, but this is all result to losing his co-workers in the library massacre provoked by Gears. This made Vincent want to never attach to anyone ever again to avoid feeling the pain of loss.
- Unintentional Uncanny Valley: Darkgem's art isn't for everyone, as it shows a much more realistic representation of animals and other beings rather than the usual cartoonish and stylized characters from other artists.
- The Woobie: The player character himself is this. He had his normal life completely robbed away from him when he was pulled into Blackgate, losing his family, friends and even possibly the love of his life.
- Allin, who hides away his woobie-ness behind his flirting and drinking, but he is a wolf who never really had a true companion by him, apart from Flauros, who died in the library massacre.
- But the one who holds the prize is Malo. His backstory tells how completely lonely and paranoid he was and still is in Blackgate, losing his arm to his recklessness with explosives and having to use a prosthetic one.
