YMMV / Black Snow (Half-Life 2)

Go To

  • Broken Base: You'll find people who praise the game's atmosphere and subtle story building that rewards exploration, but there are also those who deride the ending as a cheap cop-out that sours the entire experience to justify playing the game to begin with.
  • It's Short, So It Sucks!: The game's runtime averages from thirty minutes to an hour, and what little plot there is lacks a satisfying resolution.
  • Narm: The Black Snow fungus you find all over the facility loses a lot of its intimidation factor when it squawks like a seagull if you touch it.
  • Paranoia Fuel: The Black Snow thrives in the dark, so naturally you'll want to avoid any dimly lit places like the plague. Unfortunately, most of the base is without power, so you have no choice but to go through them in order to progress. And you'll never know where the Black Snow is until you hear those rapidly approaching footsteps.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: A really bad case, considering the wasted plot in question is the main plot itself. The game just sort of ends before it answers any of the lingering questions, like where the Black Snow came from, who the figure tracking Matsuda was, or why they put C4 in the communications tower.
