• Crosses the Line Twice: Craddock's reaction to seeing his dead and smouldering corpse is little more than Dull Surprise.
• Ho Yay: The way Hawkman and Jeremy converse makes it seem like they're more than just colleagues.
• Tearjerker: Teth-Adam and Hurut's backstory doesn't shy away from showing how rough they had it, with people being forced to work an entire day for a single piece of fruit. Adam has no hope that anyone can change things for the better, leaving it all up to chance and it's clear his family are the only thing keeping him from sinking into despair. As his son is fated to be executed, it's no wonder Adam turned out the way he did.
  "I am proud of your sense of justice, boy. But freedom is a dream. We...are not heroes. We are simply men."
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Maxine's superhero origins are given a line of exposition before moving towards her first encounter with Hawkman. Given in the comics her powers were given to her by T. O. Morrow, it can't be denied that a visual glimpse into her origins would have added a bit more excitement to her story, especially since T. O. Morrow would have been a much more likable villain than the racist cop that Maxine was pitted against.
• Unexpected Character: Among the Intergang agents that Adrianna Tomaz encounters is a large, masked man with abnormal strength.
