YMMV / Bernie Speaks with the Community

Go To

  • Anvilicious: The series can be prone to this, especially given that it was made during a time when many of Sanders' political views were further out of the mainstream than they are today.
  • Growing the Beard: The show's production quality improves by leaps and bounds as it progresses. Additionally, it went from being a half hour interview of Sanders in his office to following Sanders out in the field as he involves himself in community programs.
  • Never Live It Down: Some segments of the show, particularly a clip where Sanders praises some of the Soviet Union's social and community programs, have been used by his opponents against him during his 2016 and 2020 presidential campaigns. This is partly due to Manipulative Editing, as in the full interview, he criticizes many aspects of the USSR as well.
  • So Bad, It's Good: As with any local access TV series, the show has very low production qualities and that, along with Sanders' quirky personality, help give it a kitsch appeal outside those watching because of interest in Bernie Sanders himself.
