  • Anti-Climax Boss: Nigel breaks into Sam's house to kill her, falls for a trap she set involving Lola's body, Sam injects him with curare and then shoots him in the head.
  • Fridge Brilliance: As mentioned above, Nigel is an Anti-Climax Boss, but it makes perfect sense for him to be one: he isn't some brilliant mastermind or career villain, he's a fairly young and naive guy who started killing people in a town where murders hardly ever happen and the local law enforcement had little experience with investigating murders. Everything went right for him at first, but he soon became so overconfident and drunk on his own ego that he thought he was invincible. Of course Sam could easily take him out.
  • Fridge Logic: Woodbrook's police force might not be used to investigating murders, but a serial killer should have got all manner of police forces and law enforcement agencies interested in (or at least informed about) the case, especially once Nigel framed Sam and she went on the run. The sheer differences in methodology between Sam's paint can murders and the killer's flashy, horror movie-esque murders should have been enough to make someone think that there might have been two killers. Given that the police and other forces were searching for Sam, it's not improbable to think that they might have found where the cans had been buried, and if they did, more searching with a metal detector could well have led them to more of Sam's victims. But apparently everyone just accepted that Nigel randomly changed his method to one that's the opposite of his usual MO for one victim without questioning it, even though killing Charlie was all he needed to do to frame Sam. Unless all the law enforcement in Woodbrook's world are useless, of course.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: The story is about a bunch of happy Richard Scarry-esque animal people, murder and psychotic tendencies.
  • The Woobie: Melody Davis, a widow who never got over the death of her husband and made a life-sized dummy of him to sleep next to, just to allay her grief a little.
