- Animation Age Ghetto: This is one of the reasons for why the infamous "batawang" scene got so much controversy, as many criticized it for being "inappropriate" for kids' under the assumption that the book is automatically for kids since it's a comic with Batman, despite the comic being explicitly aimed at adults and released under DC's adult Black Label.
- Best Known for the Fanservice: Infamously known as "the Batman comic where you can see his penis" by comic book fans, which led to DC subsequently censoring versions of this book and cracking down on what their most marketable characters could do.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: Robin's real name (well, nickname) being Dick has been joke fodder for decades, even making it into official DC media like Young Justice (2010). Now there's actual Bat-dick on page. The jokes write themselves.

- Nausea Fuel: Deadman doesn't wear his red acrobat costume. Rather, his skin is flayed below the neck, so the red is actually from his exposed muscles.

- So Okay, It's Average: The general reception to Batman: Damned, to the point where no one is talking about the story itself, or even the ending page of the first issue that was intended to elicit shock and controversy with a Joker-style defaced crucifix in a church (i.e. Jesus on the cross made up to look like him and covered in HA-HA-HA graffiti).
