* AdaptationDisplacement: Over time, the balance has shifted so that Bad Movie Beatdown takes a backseat to Projector instead of vice-versa.
* BrokenBase: The Sucker Punch review is either a hilarious ripping of a pretentious movie, or one DoubleStandard joke after another over a decent, if unexceptional film. Many blame WebVideo/JesuOtaku's involvement (he's credited as a primary writer) for this.
* FunnyAneurysmMoment: Describes the scene with the Japanese family in 2012 as unintentionally funny, but admits showing anything from the scene would be tacky after Japan got hit with a tsunami in real life like in the movie.
* GrowingTheBeard: Film Brain's general setup hasn't changed, but there's a general change in focus from the early episodes and especially following the hiatus. His voice has got more relaxed and his Series/Screenwipe influence has become more obvious.
** He's also toned down his delivery, to the point he no longer has he same sarcastic inflection 20 times in a given review.
* HePannedItNowHeSucks:
** Film Brain got a bit of a backlash after panning CultClassic Film/Equilibrium. The hate for this is a weird one, seeing how the film was critically panned when it was first released (Entertainment Weekly even called it a complete ripoff of Film/TheMatrix) and it's a mild CultClassic at best. He gives nods to the reaction in later reviews.
** This happened after he gave a lower rating to Inglourious Basterds than the aforementioned Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.
** In a subversion, he reviewed Film/SevenPounds expecting controversy to rival Equilibrium, only for most of the comments to agree with him on how disturbing and Glurge manipulative the movie was.
** is review of PiratesOfTheCaribbean: At World's End, despite the film having already gotten mixed reviews. He did try to stem this by having Welshy do a counterpoint to the review to display some of the legitimate arguments that could be made against his, while still giving his honest opinion on the subject.
** Film Brain got some fire from James Bond fans who felt he was extremely unfair with Film/DieAnotherDay, and many argued that Film/QuantumOfSolace was a much worse movie (although, many other Bond fans would agree with him).
** His crossover review of Film/BatmanReturns with WebVideo/BennettTheSage, to the point that the episode's IMDb page has received seven 1/10 ratings out of fourteen votes. Bennett's BiasSteamroller against Creator/TimBurton (not shared by Film Brain) probably had a lot to do with it.
** His own negative opinions on the recent DC movies have gotten him a lot of attention, especially from DC fans. (He gave Film/BatmanVsSuperman and Film/SuicideSquad the same star rating as the critically reviled Film/FantasticFour2015)
* HilariousInHindsight:
** In the Film/Equilibrium review, he shouts "Puppy power!" at one point.
** The joke was already funny, but Film Brain commenting that Wesley Snipes avenging his childhood martial arts instructor in The Art of War II is ridiculous, adding "What's next, his pet dog?" gets even better now that Film/JohnWick is a thing.
** In his review of Shadow Man, he does a massive FacePalm after Creator/StevenSeagal somehow manages to shoot down a helicopter with just a handgun. Flash-forward to 2015, and Franchise/JamesBond does the same thing (albeit in a way that doesn't look anywhere near as ridiculous) in Film/Spectre.
* LGBTFanbase: Less for fanservice (though a lot think he's a cutie), more for his hatred against homophobia.
* MostAnnoyingSound: Matthew's voice to some due to his habit of elongating the end of his sentenceeeees.
* TheScrappy: Film Brain was once this to the Website/ThatGuyWithTheGlasses community, particularly for his work on his earliest reviews. He acknowledged in a joke when he refers to "all three" of his longtime fans. It was also lampshaded in WebVideo/Kickassia and his commentary of it. He's since been RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap. Lampshaded/spoofed in his CrossOver with ObscurusLupa, where she claims to be the most annoying person on the site. Matthew replies that her graph is America-only, going worldwide he still wins.
** Professor Celluloid seems to have few fans, which is probably why he's seen less in later episodes. Buck has also said the reason the character is rarely seen, is to avoid accusations of being a Dr Insano Expy rip-off. Lampshaded in the Spy Kids 3D: Game Over review when FB tries on Celluloid's glasses (which have crossed eyes printed on the lenses) in preparation for the film's 3D segments.
-->Film Brain: Wow, I look like an idiot!
* TheWoobie: Borders on this in his Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen review, when he breaks down upon seeing the infamous "enemy scrotum" scene, having an especially hostile Spoony call him out on his original written review of the film, and realizing his mistake while Spoony sarcastically speculates on the symbolism of the aforementioned scene.
