YMMV / Azur Lane: Slow Ahead!

Go To

  • Character Rerailment: At least for those that didn't like the plot and characterizations of the serialized previous anime, the Slice of Life and episodic nature of Slow Ahead instead focuses on the core personalities of the girls straight out of the game interacting with each other without having to be taken to other directions due to lower stakes and the reintegration of the Commander as a means of keeping unity amongst them. While the girls do get character shifts in the main game's story mode, the previous anime awkwardly gave a number of these developments that would have normally gone to the Commander towards other Ship Girls.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Bismarck's episode in the anime has her meeting up with her sister Tirpitz, something talked about in the latter's skin and referenced in the Manga chapter the episode is based on.
    • In Dido's chapter, Laffey consoles her giving her a bit more confidence.
  • One-Scene Wonder: The 4-koma has a number of original outfits for the kansen, be it Zara and Pola's outfits in their chapter or the fantasy looks for the starters.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Little Girls?: Downplayed. Unlike the main game, the leading girls are younger and the marketing focuses more on the "Moe" aspect. Like the main game, the series is still full of more mature ship girls that are always a Ms. Fanservice, Black Comedy, and the show reminding the viewer that the girls are pretty much Haremettes lusting after the (offscreen) Chick Magnet Commander. These aspects however immediately distance it from "Cute Girls Doing Cute Things" Slice of Life anime that normally fall under this trope, so coupled with knowledge of the main game, viewers are quicker to note that Slow Ahead isn't targeted to little girls at all.
