YMMV / At Eighteen

Go To

  • Adorkable: Jun-woo, and how. He may appear all stoic and expressionless, but beneath that, is actually an adorably shy goofball.
    • Soo-bin has her moments too.
    • As unlikely as it appears to be, it turns out Pil-sang is this as well, especially when it comes to his crush on Ro-mi.
    • Heck, even Teacher Oh can be quite the dork at times.

  • Ho Yay:
    • Jun-woo and Jung-ho. Not to mention, Jung-ho was Jun-woo's only friend (in the beginning), which makes Jung-ho's sudden death all the more heart-breaking.
    • As it turns out, Oh-je has a crush on Hwi-young. A good portion of the fandom ships them as well.

  • Stoic Woobie: Jun-woo, big time. He may look calm and collected most of the time, but it's clear that he has quite the emotional baggage for someone his age, and struggles to cope with them. After a whole eighteen years of being ostracized and bullied, with only one friend to rely on, he has understandably become a lot more withdrawn than one would expect. And to add to that, he feels guilty that he can't be a better son to his mother, even though he really is trying his best to do well, but keeps getting caught up in unpleasant incidents nonetheless. However, despite suffering quite a lot throughout the series, he never complains about it, and tries his best to not worry others. And always puts on a smile, just for the sake of his loved ones. So much so that one can't help but want to give him a hug, and tell him that it's okay to rely on others during such moments of emotional distress.

  • The Woobie: Quiet a few characters:

    • Teacher Oh's backstory makes him one. Poor guy was pressurized to do well in exams by his mother his whole life, and, before he could even get a chance to prove himself, she passed away. It's hard not to feel bad for him when he talks about how his past has left him with a lot of regrets.
    • Yeon-woo. Being a very young single mother, it's clear that she's trying her best to make ends meet and be a good mother to Jun-woo, but things just don't always go well for the both of them. What makes it sadder is that she blames herself for not being a better mother to Jun-woo.
    • Oh-je has his moments.

    • Jerkass Woobie:
      • Hwi-young. While he does have a tough home-life, what with his overbearing mother and a tyrant of a father, it does NOT justify his malicious actions towards Jun-woo in the least.
