YMMV / Arrow S 7 E 22 You Have Saved This City

Go To

  • Alas, Poor Scrappy: Even most Felicity detractors felt sorry for her when Oliver was taken from her by the Monitor, leaving her and Mia all alone.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Oliver's toast back in Elseworlds, to appreciating what you have while you have it, becomes so much harsher when you learn what his deal with the Monitor was.
  • I Knew It!: Many fans had already guessed that Oliver would die in the upcoming "Crisis on Infinite Earths", but nobody could've predicted it would be revealed here.
  • Shocking Moments: The Monitor showing up and confirming that Oliver does indeed die in Crisis on Infinite Earths.
  • Tear Jerker: The last 11 or so minutes of the episode starts with a lovely montage of Oliver and Felicity living in peace with the baby daughter and then...
    • Oliver and Felicity being told by The Monitor that Oliver inevitably dies in the oncoming Crisis and that there's no way to prevent his death.
    • Oliver saying goodbye to an infant Mia followed immediately by him saying a tearful goodbye to an equally tearful Felicity.
    • In the flashfowards, Felicity telling William and Mia goodbye at what is revealed to be Oliver's grave, which includes William saying how much he misses his father and Mia saying she wishes she could've known him, ending in a tearful hug between the three of them.
    • And finally, in Emily Bett Rickards's final scene, Felicity calls in her own favor to the Monitor, as he takes her to Oliver. Since it was revealed that Oliver had died in the Crisis, this essentially meant that Felicity died as well.
    • That being said, Oliver's death, in general. Over seven years, we've seen Oliver Queen go from a cold, ruthless vigilante hellbent on righting his father's wrongs, perfectly willing to drop bodies along the way, and willing to go it completely alone to a hero who would go on to lead, inspire, and mentor several other heroes, and when he finally gets a chance to hang up the hood, live the rest of his days as a loving husband and father, he is told he is destined to die. With the final ten episodes of and Crisis not even being the series finale, one gets the feeling the tearjerkers are gonna be plentiful.
  • Unexpected Character: The Monitor shows up with zero warning. Unless you've seen him in leaked set photos of the finale.
