- Cult Classic: While it never had much of an audience, the show was able to attract a small but devoted following, which is how it managed to last 7 seasons.
- Hilarious in Hindsight: In one episode, Arliss laments that he is constantly mistaken for David Keith. Later, in the episode "You Can Pick Your Friends", David Keith plays Arliss' brother Archie.
- Too Bleak, Stopped Caring: One of the reasons Arli$$ isn't better known these days is that the title character really is a scumbag. While a sitcom with an Unsympathetic Comedy Protagonist is nothing new, many viewers and critics felt Arliss was just too unlikable to center a show around, without being entertaining enough to compensate.
