• Alternate Character Interpretation:
  • The scientists captured by the French Government seem to all be incompetent, but they could easily just be unwilling to create war machines for the empire. Alternatively, while intelligent in their own fields, they ultimately have little experience in the development of weaponry.
  • Who caused the cable car explosion? Chimene states that it was an accident but the actual sequence of events was left vague. It depends on if the airplane was under their control as later points in the movie show that it can be both flown by Chimene and Rodrigue or automatically. So the incident may have been a complete accident with the electrical discharge or a deliberate action to cover up their actions.
• Tear Jerker: Darwin's slow death from old age and a life of living in the polluted France. Him going out with April to find the chemicals was less about finding a cure for his condition and more about getting to spend one last day with her having fun.
