  • Harsher in Hindsight: At the end of the episode, Roger tells Stan that there's nothing wrong with being bald, citing the fact that he's bald and he still made out with Francine, to which Stan responds with a Big "WHAT?!". This was Played for Laughs. An episode in the next season would have Roger kiss Francine again, and when Stan finds out (after Roger spent the whole episode trying to keep it a secret), he beats the everloving shit out of Roger and renounces their friendship, and this isn't Played for Laughs at all.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Steve learns that he has scoliosis and must wear a back brace, which he fears will ruin his (already pretty uneventful) social life. Stan reassures him that it is what's on the inside that counts, but when Steve finds out that his father is bald and wears a wig at all times, he calls the old man a hypocrite. For the remainder of the episode, Stan is treated as the antagonist, despite the fact that his insecurities are given a far more reasonable justification: Stan lived a stressful life with an emotionally manipulative mother, which caused him to develop horrible acne. The only cure was an experimental cream that caused him to go bald at a young age, which in turn led to him being ridiculed his entire life. Compared to that, Steve's six weeks of therapy are a mild inconvenience, making him come across as a Spoiled Brat, and consequently, the reveal that he's essentially been babied about Stan's baldness and rendering his actions pointless is fairly satisfying.
