|These are what we call the 'YMMV items.' Things that some people find in this work. We call them 'your mileage might vary' because not everyone sees these things in the same way. This starts discussions in the trope lists, a thing we don't want. Please use the discussion page if you'd like to discuss any of these items.|
YMMV: American Bandstand
- Memetic Mutation: "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it!"
- Never Live It Down: The show's overwhelming Caucasianness - especially in its 1950s incarnation
- WTH, Casting Agency?: The performance of noise rock band Public Image Ltd.. in 1981 to a befuddled crowd.
- It was 1980 and most of the Bandstand kids only showed temporary confusion during the band's first song ("Poptones"); by the time they started in on "Careering" and invited the entire audience back onto the stage, they'd won over pretty much everyone. Also, it's virtually impossible to miss the fanboy geeking out over being close to his hero John Lydon during "Careering"; you get the impression the music pins he's showing off are of Lydon/PIL.
