YMMV / Altered Carbon: Resleeved

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation: Reileen definitely has this. Season One of Altered Carbon implied that Reileen was Evil All Along and her betrayal of Quell occurred in part out of jealousy for Tak's infatuation with the latter. In contrast, the film suggests her decision to betray the Quellists came from a difference in ideology instead of a Faceā€“Heel Turn, as Reileen is still shown to be rather moral here and goes out of her way to protect Holly even when she doesn't have to. Not to mention it's still left ambiguous whether she became The Unfettered in order to become a Meth to take care of the brother she'd just rediscovered or if Quell was right and becoming sociopathic was inevitable when essentially immortal.
  • Complete Monster: Tanaseda Sr., the founder of the Mizumoto Syndicate, developed the Mizumoto system while supposedly sacrificing his life for his successors. In truth, Tanaseda has his own personality overwrite his supposed successors, killing them and allowing him to take on their identity, with his first victim being his own son. Holding the tattoo artist Holly's parents hostage to get her to perform the transfer, Tanaseda later destroys their Stacks to murder them, and when exposed, attempts to slaughter his Syndicate and simply start over.
  • Fridge Brilliance: In Season 1 and 2 of the show, Rei appeared to have no idea that Tak survived the events of Stronghold after her original copy was destroyed on the shuttle. In a holorecording made in the cradle at Stronghold, there is a recording of Rei talking to Quellcrest, with the first recording appearing to indicate that Rei thought Tak had died (even the second recording shows some sense that she couldn't comprehend her loss). Yet, in the Altered Carbon: Resleeved, Rei (under the guise of Gena), discovers that Tak is alive and she's working with him on her mission. So, how is it that "Gena" Rei finds out about Tak but Rei in the show doesn't seem to know he survived? The show itself presents two possible, yet equally horrifying possibilities: 1. that "Gena" Rei was a backup copy made by C-TAC and is not the original Rei (which makes sense because she technically would be expendable). And upon completing her mission, that copy was murdered by C-TAC. 2. "Gena" Rei is Rei, but after the events of the anime, she was killed by C-TAC before she could backup her memory and the last copy was downloaded into a new body, with her not remembering that Tak was alive.
