YMMV / Alice in Wonderland (1949)

Go To

  • Accidental Nightmare Fuel: Many of the puppets are quite unintentionally grotesque and frightening in appearance despite their designs being intended to be comedic.
  • Awesome Music: "I'm Upside Down" is such a catchy tune that chances are, most people who watch the film will find themselves humming it. The White Rabbit's song "Play the Game" also sounds like something from an operetta, with some very witty lyrics.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: The elaborate underwater lobster dance that is a tangential reference to The Lobster Quadrille. It comes between the scene where Alice is looking for a way to escape her pursuers while inexplicably pondering this scenario and the following garden scene and after it's finished, it's not referenced again.
    • The Mock Turtle "Beautiful Soup" and the The Lobster Quadrille snippet. Alice is taken into custody by the Gryphon where the he introduces the Mock Turtle who sings and after a group of sea animals finishes the following song, it goes into the trial without even referencing either scene.
  • Uncanny Valley: The puppets' designs look grotesque in their exaggerations and uncomfortably human-like- even on some animals, leading to them looking inherently off when in motion.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: The stop-motion animation is surprisingly fluid for a film that was made over 70 years ago. In most places, the live-action Alice blends in pretty well with it too.
