YMMV / Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent

Go To

  • Broken Base: The ending became controversial on social media where, after all the build up of a physical confrontation, Jon finally confronts Regime Superman with a hug, a reassurance of his grief and an urging to be better. This came after realizing how horrible the Regime was, how feared and extreme Superman had become, and watching him break the arm of the Injustice universe version of Jay right in front of him. Jon is then anticlimactically sent back to his home universe by Cyborg, with no resolution of the arc that brought him to the Injustice universe in the first place, such as Val-Zod and Red Tornado still being in the Phantom Zone where Ultraman sent them. Discourse broke out on whether this was a valid course of action for Jon to take and a satisfying ending, not helped by Tom Taylor's arguments that this is a valid interpretation of Superman as a champion of hope and peace.
  • Catharsis Factor:
    • With the exception of the original Pre-Crisis version, every depiction of Ultraman has been a reprehensible tyrannical bully, the most recent one being responsible for Jon being separated from his family. In Issue #2, we see a flashback of when he kept Jon powerless in a volcano and sadistically taunted him. After seeing him threaten to repeat his abuse, it’s an immense relief to see Injustice Superman snap his neck.
    • For those who felt Injustice Harley Quinn got off too easy despite being just as much as responsible for the death of Lois, her child, and the destruction of Metropolis as the Joker, Jon rejecting her apology and calling her out on helping the Joker made many fans rejoice. Regime Superman verbally lashing her when she taunts him about Jon siding against him was also seen as very satisfying.
