- Fridge Horror: While Nate and the Pinto twins are mostly just set dressing for this series, one has to wonder how they felt about their older siblings (who, given their own young age, they probably saw as nearly invincible) nearly getting killed multiple times; heck, in the second book, Ruth Rose is in the center of an active Hostage Situation (one she defuses herself but still).
- One True Threesome: While there's not a lot of fanfic for the series, Dink/Josh/Ruth Rose is definitely a ship that crops up and the first fanfic series on Archive of Our Own (now deleted due to one of the authors disappearing from the Internet) featured it as a main ship.
