YMMV / A Nero Wolfe Mystery

Go To

  • Fan-Preferred Cut Content: The Canadian extended version of Before I Die is well-liked for including the deleted scenes where Fritz cooks for the mob bodyguard and then goes to acquire black market meat.
  • Ham and Cheese: There is little subtlety in the acting, with the repertory cast members using exaggerated accents, voices, and mannerisms to distinguish the characters they play from episode to episode. This is arguably in keeping with the nature of the show as a theatrical production, with the cast members acting as they would on a stage before an audience.
  • Narrowed It Down To The Guy I Recognise: Neatly played with. You will recognise most of the cast from something or other... however, the repertory nature of the cast means that the actor who played the murderer last week might be the victim this week and then might just be some schlub who turns up for a few minutes the next week, so it's not quite that easy to determine who did it based on this. Furthermore, when a notable outside guest star did appear, they were usually cast as the victim.
  • Too Good to Last: The show ran for a grand total of twenty episodes, unfortunately airing just at the time when the A&E network was transitioning into more mainstream programming. It's still fondly remembered by critics and mystery fans as being a gorgeous and faithful adaptation of Rex Stout's stories.
