What An Idiot / Battle for Dream Island

Go To

Battle for Dream Island, being the surreal show it is, certainly has several of these moments.

Spoilers are unmarked. Proceed with caution.

    open/close all folders

    General
  • The Announcer is infamous for his bad spending habits, resulting in the show's budget being cut over time and causing trouble for the cast, like in "Gardening Hero" where they get sent to space and fall danger to many things there.
You'd Expect: That the Announcer would, at some point, realize that his spending habits are detrimental to the show and improve on it.
Instead: The Announcer remains oblivious, spending so much money on stuff that the contestants are seen using once and then never again, such as game consoles, teddy bears, entire houses (even purchasing several "backup houses"), etc.
Even Worse: The Announcer still remains oblivious to his habits even in "SOS (Save Our Show)", where his habits eventually cause the animation to rapidly decrease in quality and threaten the cancellation of the series.

Season One (Battle for Dream Island)

Take the Plunge

  • In the second part of the episode, the contestants have to build a boat. Golf Ball has the idea to make a motorboat, but Snowball refuses because of how Golf Ball's explanation confused him. Golf Ball dismisses him, and Snowball threatens to push her off the cliff.
You'd Expect: That Golf Ball would hold her tongue and walk away, given that he is not only bigger than her, but also has more physical capabilities.
Instead: Golf Ball not only doesn't take his threat seriously, but also proceeds to insult his intelligence to his face.
As A Result: Snowball pushes her off the cliff and causes her to drown.
Barriers and Pitfalls
  • Midway into the episode, as Leafy and Ice Cube are riding down a fast elevator, Leafy decides to show Ice Cube a trick involving gravity with a bowling ball by letting go of it and watching it fall at the same rate as the elevator.
You'd Expect: That Leafy would drop the bowling ball in a place where it would merely hit the seats when it landed and not cause harm to anyone.
Instead: Leafy drops the bowling ball over Ice Cube, resulting in it smashing her into bits when the elevator stops.
Are You Smarter Than a Snowball?
  • Near the end of the episode, Pen and Blocky decide to steal the test answers in order to cheat on the contest.
You'd Expect: That they would return the test answers after they were done with them in order to prevent suspicion from the Announcer.
Instead: They keep the test answers even after they finish, resulting in the Announcer catching them cheating and making their scores 0.
Even Worse: Had they put the answers back when they were done, their team, the Squishy Cherries would have won; however because they were caught, the Squashy Grapes win instead.
Sweet Tooth
  • During the episode, Pencil and Match mock Bubble for being so stupid that she was unable to count to three. Bubble explains that she died before she could get to three, and counts again before being killed.
You'd Expect: That Pencil and Match would realize that what Bubble said was true, given that they saw it with their own eyes.
Instead: The two stay oblivious to this, still thinking that Bubble is stupid.
Hurtful!
  • During the challenge, at the part where the contestants have to make a cake like in Sweet Tooth, Firey decides to make an actual cake, while Flower, Bubble, and Leafy decide to just use clumps of dirt, calling it a dirt cake and are allowed to pass.
You'd Expect: That Firey would see how much faster making a "dirt cake" is and make one too in order to keep up.
Instead: Firey lets his grudge with Coiny get in the way (As Coiny invented the dirt cake), and wastes time making an actual cake, falling extremely behind. He eventually does catch up, but still.

Season Two (Battle For Dream Island Again)
Zeeky Boogy Doog
  • At the beginning of the episode, Book is launched into Golf Ball's underground factory after Pin shakes her off the Eiffel Tower, landing in a vat of Dream Sauce.
You'd Expect: That she would simply just climb out and get out of the factory.
Instead: She stays there and does nothing for several minutes, causing her to eventually get cooked along with the Dream Sauce when Team No-Name arrives there, killing her.
The Long-lost Yoyle City
  • At the end of the episode, Team No-Name has reached the summit of Yoyle Mountain and is about to win. Puffball is contemplating throwing the challenge in order for her to get a prize.
You'd Expect: That she would realize how stupid of a plan that is, as it could backfire on her and get her eliminated.
Instead: She is so deluded into thinking that she would get a prize that she shrinks and causes everyone to fall all the way down to the bottom of the mountain, blowing the challenge as a result.
As a Result: Her plan backfires and gets her eliminated.
Intruder Alert
  • After being told to by Tennis Ball, Firey and Gelatin temporarily switch from Team No-Name to FreeSmart in order to steal Ruby's Yoylite. However, FreeSmart has no idea what the challenge is this time.
You'd Expect: Firey and Gelatin to tell them what the real challenge is and at least try to do something to win.
You'd Also Expect: Firey Speaker Box to tell them instead.
Instead: No one tells FreeSmart what the challenge is, with Firey Speaker Box refusing to do so because they were not present when it was announced, and Firey and Gelatin fooling around by making up fake challenges, such as eating 700 Yoylebush leaves, doing 60 jumping jacks, and breaking windows.
Result: They lose and Firey is eliminated in the next episode.

    Season Three (IDFB)
Welcome Back
  • Shortly after the intro, Ruby shows off the voting results for the then-unaired BFDIA 6, which results in Pencil accidentally jumping off the Yoyle Needy trying to get them, resulting in the other alliance members giving chase.
You'd Expect: That Ruby would go down the stairs like Book and Ice Cube.
Instead: She recklessly jumps down the inside of the Yoyle Needy.
Result: She shatters and dies. Luckily, Pencil ends up rescued in the end.

    Season Four (Battle for BFDI/BFB)
Getting Teardrop to Talk
  • Shortly before Four's introduction, Flower attempts to open up a cyanide jar, but fails, and needs help.
You'd Expect: That Flower would get help from one of the more stronger contestants to help her open it.
Instead: She calls upon the help of Black Hole, a literal black hole, to open the jar by sucking the lid.
As A Result: Black Hole almost destroys the entire world.
Don't Dig Straight Down
  • Book has just shoved Ice Cube and Taco away from the lava explosion so they won't be killed. Book is then lying on the ground.
You'd Expect: For Book to have a head start and run away as fast as possible as the lava will easily kill her as shown in BFB 1.
Instead: She stays at her position and stares at the lava.
As A Result: Book is one of the people who dies from the lava storm that occurs.
A Taste of Space
  • In this episode, the challenge is to cool down X in some way after he is set on fire.
You'd Expect: That one of the contestants would see how simple of a task this is and pour water or ice on him.
Instead: All of the contestants waste time doing various nonsensical and pointless things that don't help X and negatively affect everyone, such as turning the Sun into a giant ice cube. The idea of cooling down X with ice is only had by Leafy near the end of the episode, and by that time, the winning team had scored an embarrassingly low -90,000,000 points.
BFB = Back From Beginning
  • When the Announcer suddenly returns, Four tries to make him leave.
You'd Expect: That Four would use at least one of their superpowers to do it. Four is far more powerful than the Announcer and could easily get the job done by doing that.
Instead: Four just relies on other people to do it, who end up failing, and gives up without trying themselves.
In All Fairness: In BFB 30, it was revealed that Four has idolized the Announcer for a long time, so that could be why they didn't try and use their powers on him.

Season Five (The Power of Two)
Gardening Zero
  • While singing her Warm Up Song, Bell accidentally shakes her teleportation bracelet off and is sent back to the starting area.
You'd Expect: One of her team members to take off their bracelet, put Bell's bracelet back on her, and teleport back with her.
Instead: They try to find alternate forms of communicating with Bell, before giving up that plan and try to find other methods of heating up the Funny Plant.
The Great Goikian Bake-Off
  • Death P.A.C.T Again makes Two a fish roll for the competition but decide to revive the fish and succeed in doing so. The revived fish is quickly shown to have aggressive behaviors.
You'd Expect: The team to take the fish out and give just the roll to Two.
Instead: They leave the fish in the roll.
As a Result: The fish proceeds to eat Two not once but twice, and the justifiably angry Two puts Death P.A.C.T Again up for elimination.

    Shorts
If X-Mas in Among Us was a BFDI Challenge
  • When Tree is discovered dead, Ruby makes an insensitive joke regarding Among Us afterwards, which the other contestants take offense to.
You'd Expect: That Ruby would keep her mouth shut, especially because they would find her suspicious for joking about that and get her ejected.
Instead: She makes another insensitive joke, resulting in her ejection.
  • Later, Profily comes face to face with Donut, who is revealed to be Naughty (the video's substitute for Imposters), and pulls a knife on the former.
You'd Expect: That Profily would run away as fast as they could or call for help. Anything to ensure survival.
Instead: Profily insults Donut to his face while he has a knife pulled on them and does nothing to defend themselves, resulting in them dying.
