Scooby-Doo, Mecha Mutt Menace is a 30-minute Scooby-Doo special released direct to video in 2013.

Scooby and the gang head to Houston's Space Center's Science Expo when Fred enters a trapping invention into their rotation. In the process they meet up with Melanie Staples and see her father's exposition of his latest invention: a mecha mutt robot. And as usual, they've got a mystery on their hand when the robot goes rampant.

Tropes included:

  • Abhorrent Admirer: Irv to Melanie. He acts as if the professor is keeping them apart on purpose, but she doesn't want much of anything to do with him.
  • Banana Peel: The trope of someone slipping on a banana peel is at least followed in spirit when Shaggy at one point trips up the Mecha Mutt with a smear of banana space food.
  • Chekhov's Gun:
    • Several items, including Melanie's hair band, end up stuck to the magnet, meaning they're metal. Velma pulls off her hair band to reveal that it's actually a remote control for Mecha Mutt.
    • During Fred's trial run, Melanie gets flung into the net, ending up with gum resin all over her. Velma points out that the sticky substance on the controls was resin and not candy.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Daphne is not happy about how close Melanie is getting to Fred...
  • Cute Is Evil: Melanie ends up going from cute new girl friend to being the criminal.
  • Genius Sweet Tooth: Irv, Professor Staples' lab assistant, has the brains to help him on the project and a massive taste for anything sweet. He spends most of his scenes munching on candy.
  • Red Herring:
    • Irv, Dr. Staples' lab assistant, harbors a massive crush on Melanie, which he claims the professor is trying to squelch. He says he'd do anything to fight it. However, he isn't behind the robot's rampage.
    • Dr. Albright made the prototype that inspired Mecha Mutt, only to have the project put under Dr. Staples' leadership because he's a celebrity ex-astronaut. Despite her bitterness, she's innocent.
  • "Scooby-Doo" Hoax: Mecha Mutt was actually under the control of Melanie, who had grown bitter of how her father never paid attention to her work and decided to ruin his career in retaliation.
  • That Came Out Wrong: Fred assures Daphne that he's not attracted to Melanie's brains before quickly acknowledging that his statement didn't come out the way he intended.
