Kid Lucky is a French cartoon series created in 2020 and produced by Dargaud Média, Belvision and Ellipse Animation.
This series adapts the Kid Lucky comic books, a Spinoff Babies series to Morris' Lucky Luke created in 1995. Achdé is in charge of the comics since 2011 and has a consulting credit in the cartoon. It is the first animated Lucky Luke entry since the 1991 series not to be made by Xilam.
It follows Lucky Luke when he was a little boy called "Kid Lucky", in various adventures in the Wild West town of Nothing Gulch with friends of his age.
Kid Lucky provides examples of:
- Bears Are Bad News: One day, the gang enters a mine shaft, and an aggressive bear follows them in it.
- Blasting It Out of Their Hands: Just like he would do it as an adult, Kid Lucky uses his slingshot to blasts other slingshots out of other kids' hands.
- Brats with Slingshots: Since this series is aimed at younger audiences than previous Lucky Luke media, the protagonist uses a slingshot instead of a gun.
- Early Personality Signs: Lucky already has Improbable Aiming Skills (even with just a slingshot) and a will to right the wrongs he comes across.
- Fastest Gun in the West: Kid Lucky's not quite this yet, but "The Fastest Slingshot in the West" is a great enough start.
- Goofy Buckteeth: Dopey is the goofiest and least bright member of Kid Lucky's gang, and he's got prominent buckteeth.
- Iconic Outfit: Kid Lucky already wears everything his adult self is famous for — white cowboy hat, yellow shirt, red scarf around the neck, black jacket, denim pants and brown boots.
- Limited Wardrobe: Kid Lucky always wears the same Iconic Outfit. He has a closet full of them.
- Pink Means Feminine: Joannie dresses all in pink and she's the girliest out of the two girls in the gang, the other being the tomboyish Lisette.
- Standard Snippet: In the first episode, Kid Lucky's forced to train on the piano and tries to play Ludwig van Beethoven's "Für Elise", a piece that's ubiquitous for piano beginners.
- Tomboy and Girly Girl: Joannie's the girly, pink-dressed girl and Lisette is the farm-raised, tomboy-dressed one.
- Two Girls to a Team: At its core, Kid Lucky's gang includes himself, Dopey, and two girls, Joannie and Lisette.
