Fear(s) of the Dark, or Peur(s) du noir, is a 2007 French animated anthology horror film.

Exactly What It Says on the Tin as the stories all involve some Primal Fear of some kind.

Can be watched in full (though without subtitles) here

Tropes used include:

  • And I Must Scream: The fate of Eric in the first story as he’s turned into a living egg carrier of sorts, producing giant bug children and unable to move.
  • Beware of Vicious Dog: The grim little man in one of the wrap arounds has a pack of such dogs, each one he lets loose on a different victim from animals, to a child, a woman, til only one dog is left and it turns on him, graphically ripping him to pieces.
  • Deliberately Monochrome: The entire film is in black and white which adds to the unsettling nature.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: A few of these stories, including the final one, run on this as we’re not entirely sure if what we’re seeing is real or the product of the characters fears.
  • Primal Fear: The thesis the anthology runs on and explores in a variety of ways from nightmares to monstrous animals to even the supernatural.
