Graduation is on the horizon for the Rainbooms. Unfortunately, at the same time, something happens between Sunset and Twilight, causing their friendship to deteriorate. It doesn't take long for the other Rainbooms to figure out that the two girls' inner demons are starting to resurface. Unfortunately, that ends up being just the tip of the iceberg as it becomes clear that all the magic the Rainbooms had defeated since first meeting Princess Twilight is starting to return...

- Big Bad Cinch is the one behind the main conflict.
- Cassandra Truth:
- Twilight tells Rainbow Dash and Rarity that she heard Midnight Sparkle's voice inside her head, but they don't really believe her...until Fluttershy mentions that she saw Midnight Sparkle's eyes on Twilight's face.
- The Humane Five try to tell Sunset that Midnight Sparkle is controlling Twilight and they need to help her before Midnight completely returns. But, possibly partially because of her own inner demon, Sunset doesn't believe Midnight is back and Twilight is just jealous.
- Foil: The demon selves of Twilight and Sunset. Twilight's demon, Midnight Sparkle, is a separate personality from her that forcibly controls Twilight to appear jealous and spiteful toward Sunset. Sunset's demon is essentially her old self who persuades her into becoming distrustful and angry.
- Good Eyes, Evil Eyes: Twilight and Sunset's eyes change to those of their demon selves whenever their demon selves are talking to them or when their true selves try to break through.
- Make Wrong What Once Went Right: The endgame of Cinch's plot; to erase the Equestria Girls' friendships before they were formed so they couldn't make her lose her job.
- Never My Fault: Typical for Cinch, she blames the Equestria Girls for her losing her job as principal of Crystal Prep, ignoring the fact she blackmailed and manipulated Twilight which nearly resulted in the world being destroyed, which alone displayed how little she values the education and well-being of her students, using them solely to preserve her own reputation.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Pinkie Pie, in the desperate situation the Equestria Girls are in, acts very serious. And she even acknowledges it!
- Race Against the Clock: Thanks to Cinch, the Rainbooms must reverse the damage she's done within twenty-four hourse, or else all their memories together as friends will be gone forever.
