A misdialed number leads to an unexpected, long distance romance. BUUZA!! is a comic about found family, diaspora and religion, set in an urban fantasy 90's middle east and central Asia. BUUZA first started serialisation on 31st December, 2018; self-published via kickstarter in May 2019. It has won the Broken Frontier Best Webcomic Award in 2019 and 2020. It is wholly created by Shazleen Khan and is ongoing.

BUUZA!! contains examples of:

  • Birthday Episode: The Perfect Gift #1 and #2. Happy birthday, Zach!
  • Breather Episode: BET ON IT. Sandwiched right between The Promise and The Space Between.
  • Hooker with a Heart of Gold: Subverted. The opening scene shows Zach collecting donations "for the needy", Sam contributes to it before going into the cafe Zach was standing outside of. He then proceeds to offer to pay for their shared meal- out of the donation bucket.
  • Long-Lost Relative: Zhen is a Faris. Musa and Miriam got to know of a third sibling around the beginning of the webcomic, and Musa is frantically searching for this person. With the way of the plot, it seems the truth will be revealed to Musa in good time.
  • New Year Has Come:The first episode is titled 'New Year's Eve, 1997'. It is an arc spanning around 4 installations, and ends at midnight. The next episode is centered around New Year's Day, next year. These arcs set the stage for the rest of the story and introduce the main characters.
  • Refused Reunion: In the arc called 'The Promise', when Zach implies a possible reunion between Zhen and the Faris siblings, he is firmly rebounded. Zhen wants nothing to do with them
  • The Clan: Sam's family, the Alikhanovs. Musa says her family is considered extremely auspicious, and we know that they are well-respected for their clairvoyant, oracular powers. The trope would also apply to Musa's family, the Farises.
