Maoist Rebel News is the name of the YouTube channel, website, and social media accounts headed by Jason Unruhe. Supposedly, he presents the news from a Marxist perspective. He has presented as truth various pro-communist, anti-western conspiracy theories, including Holodomor denial. Unruhe is a big, big fan of North Korea, which is a free, democratic, workers' paradise in his mind.

There is some debate as to whether or not Unruhe is a Troll portraying a character, even among self-described communists.

Tropes:

  • Delinquent Hair: Unruhe has recently sported a dark brown, and red, Mohawk hairstyle.

  • Eagleland: Unsurprisingly, he strongly believes in the second flavor. (Unruhe himself is Canadian, in case you were wondering.)

  • Enemy Mine: He supports Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad, arguing that he should be backed up against the current revolution so that he can be overthrown by a communist revolution later.

  • Godwin's Law: Unruhe throws out Nazi comparisons like they're going out of style.

  • Political Rap: In March 2016, Jason Unruhe announced that he would be making a rap video. The name of the video is "MRN Rap Video: Fake Ass First Wordlists". When his "rap video" was uploaded on April 1st, 2016, it turns out it was just an April Fools' day prank.

  • Red China: If you haven't figured out by the name, Unruhe is a strong supporter of China under the rule of Mao Zedong.

  • Quote Mine: Unruhe's entire case against Shin Dong-hyuk is based on the author of Escape from Camp 14 calling it a "gigantic lie". The "gigantic lie" he was speaking of was the omission of Shin being innocently responsible for his mother and brother's executions. Nevertheless, Unruhe has taken the words "gigantic lie" out of context in order to argue that the whole book was Based on a Great Big Lie.

  • Voice of the Resistance: Presents the news from an anti-capitalist, anti-first world Marxist prespective, in contrast to most other news channels. The name "Maoist Rebel News" makes the channel seem like this.
